School-Time Series Overview

The Clemens Center is proud to be a partner with area educators in providing arts experiences that enrich the lives of young people. Over the years, our audience has grown to include not only regional public and private schools, but also home-schools, pre-schools and individual families. Since 1979, the Mary Tripp Marks School-Time Series has touched the lives of more than 450,000 young people with curriculum-related programs. For many of them, this is their first introduction to the Clemens Center and to the magic of live theatre.

Each season, we strive to present a variety of productions that complement the school curriculum and enhance learning, as only the arts can do. This year, students will be transported to Paris, laugh along with Alexander, and watch a young detective at work. They'll journey into the past and be inspired by a true story from the Holocaust. They'll experience the age-old tradition of storytelling and enjoy one of Shakespeare's timeless comedies.

Exposure to live theater can ignite a child's imagination in a unique way, opening the door to a greater understanding of the world and a life-long love of the arts.

Study Guides
Filled with background information and student activities, these curriculum-based guides will enhance your students' performance experience. Study Guides will be available on-line approximately one month prior to each performance.

Admission
Tickets are $4.00 each. One complimentary admission for a teacher or chaperone will be supplied for every 20 student tickets purchased.

Reservations
Reservations are now being taken for the 2008-09 season. To place an order, contact the School-Time Coordinator at 607-733-5639 ext. 248. Your order will be confirmed in September, when your exact student count is known. All reservations should be finalized one month prior to the performance. Reservations are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Please order early, as many of our performances do sell-out.

Payment
For groups of 10 or more, payment may be made at any time upon confirmation of your reservations, but should be made at least one week prior to the performance you wish to attend. For groups of nine or fewer, please send full payment at the time of reservation, if possible. Checks and money orders should be made payable to the "Clemens Center." Approximately four weeks before each performance, a group Admission Slip will be issued to the contact person for your school or group. This is your "ticket" and must be brought to the theatre, where it will be collected by the School-Time Coordinator.

Special Needs
Wheelchair seating and accommodations for sign language interpreters are available upon prior request. Please indicate all special needs when placing your order.

Arrivals and Transportation
Please plan to arrive 15-30 minutes before the performance. Our ushers will seat groups in the order in which they arrive and we request that you fill every seat. Funds may be provided to assist schools in covering transportation costs where austerity budgets restrict the costs of transportation. Please contact the School-Time Coordinator at 607-733-5639 ext. 248 for more information.

Unloading and Picking Up Students
Since no traffic is allowed to stop along Clemens Center Parkway, the City of Elmira's Traffic Bureau recommends that all busses, vans and cars use Railroad Avenue (which is adjacent to the Clemens Center) for unloading and picking up students. If you have any questions, please contact the Traffic Bureau at 607-737-5641. Parking for private vehicles is available in the Gray Street parking garage directly west of our building. Schools are dismissed in the order in which their busses line up when they return for pick-up.
