Mary Tripp Marks School-Time Series 2011-2012

Welcome to the 2011-2012 Mary Tripp Marks School-Time Series!  Ignite your students imagination with these exciting show offerings: The Taming of the Shrew; Treasured Stories by Eric Carle; Laura Ingalls Wilder; Charlotte’s Web; The Color of Justice; The Ugly Duckling & The Tortoise and The Hare.

The Clemens Center is proud to be a partner with area educators in providing arts experiences that enrich the lives of young people. Over the years, our audience has grown to include not only regional public and private schools, but also home-schools, pre-schools, individual families and the general public. Since 1979, the Mary Tripp Marks School-Time Series has touched the lives of more than 480,000 young people with curriculum-related programs. For many of them, this is their first introduction to the Clemens Center and to the magic of live theatre.

This year, students will be charmed by a trio of treasured Eric Carle stories, travel across the unsettled frontier of the late-1800’s American Midwest as the Ingalls family searches for a liltte house to call home, and visit Farmer Zuckerman’s farm where a miraculous spider and a lovable pig come to life in E.B. White’s endearing tale. They will experience the stories of Hans Christian Anderson and Aesop in a whole new light, learn about the story of a courageous young girl and a great warrior for justice and their battle for equal rights, and take a trip back in time to the Wild West in a popular Shakespearean comedy.

These programs are made possible in part, through contributions made to the Clemens Center’s Endowment Fund in memory of Mary Tripp Marks and her concern for the cultural enrichment of children. Additional funding is provided through a generous gift from The Edwin Caplin Foundation, Mr. Edwin Caplin and Mr. Chretien Risley.

Exposure to live theater can ignite a child's imagination in a unique way, opening the door to a greater understanding of the world and a life-long love of the arts.

Arrivals and Transportation
Please plan to arrive 15-30 minutes before the performance. Our ushers will seat groups in the order in which they arrive and we request that you fill every seat. Funds may be provided to assist schools in covering transportation costs where austerity budgets restrict the costs of transportation. Please contact the School-Time Coordinator at 607-733-5639 ext. 248 for more information.

Unloading and Picking Up Students
Since no traffic is allowed to stop along Clemens Center Parkway, the City of Elmira's Traffic Bureau recommends that all busses, vans and cars use Railroad Avenue (which is adjacent to the Clemens Center) for unloading and picking up students. If you have any questions, please contact the Traffic Bureau at 607-737-5641. Parking for private vehicles is available in the Gray Street parking garage directly west of our building. Schools are dismissed in the order in which their busses line up when they return for pick-up.
