The Clemens Center
A Multi-Faceted Community JewelFrom its 1925 genesis as a vaudeville stage and its 1940's transformation to a modern movie house, to its present day role as the region's premier performing arts center, the Clemens Center has always reflected the region's need for cultural enrichment.
More than a decade ago, a Facilities Master Plan was created to guide the organization in maintaining and improving this community asset. Phase 1, dealing with public access and amenities, was completed in 1999. Phase 2 of that plan, focusing on audience and performance experiences at the Clemens Center, began in 2007.
Elements of Phase 2 construction project include:
- Stage Expansion and Renovation
- Expansion of the depth of the stage from 32' to 45' in order to accomodate large-scale touring productions
- Renovations within the stage house including updating technology and enlarging the orchestra pit
- Addition of a truck ramp and loading dock
- Renovation and addition of backstage production areas
- Audience Chamber Renovation
- Augmentation of audio and lighting systems
- Reconfiguration of the seating to conform to ADA requirements and to improve audience sightlines and comfort
- Renovation of Powers Theater audience chamber decor including the rebuilding of opera boxes that were removed in the 1940s

In 1999, the Clemens Center completed Phase 1 of the construction project to expand and renovate its facilities by:
- renovating and expanding the lobby space to include amenities such as restrooms, an elevator, concessions area and coat check
- increasing our patrons' safety and accessibility to the theatre by creating a vehicle approach
- enhancing the audience's experience and comfort by improving the heating, air conditioning and electrical systems of Powers Theater
- creating a more distinctive image with the use of exterior signage (including a marquee-a first for the Clemens Center) and related lighting/site work
- giving a glimpse of what is still yet to come in Powers Theater in Phase 2 of our plan with decorative painting
We are grateful for ALL of the region's support towards these projects!
